Daniel began his studies at the age of 11 with Paul Tortelier in Israel and Paris. Within a few months of moving to New York at the age of 15, he was chosen by Leonard Bernstein to appear with the NY Philharmonic. The following years were spent studying with Leonard Rose at Juilliard, earning a Diploma, Bachelor of Music and Master of Science. At the age of 21, Daniel became a professor at the Oberlin Conservatory. After further studies with Gregor Piatigorsky, Daniel became acting principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and a few years later, came to the Toronto Symphony as principal cellist in 1974. Many solo appearances followed with some of the great orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony with Seiji Ozawa, the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler, The National Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra.
