The June 19 holiday Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. This significant date holds great importance and provides an opportunity for reflection, education, and celebration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In honor of Juneteenth, Marmoset has contributed $2,500 toward Southern Oregon University\u2019s Imani Scholarship for the Education and Empowerment of Black Learners<\/a>. The fund, founded by CEO and Founder of Marmoset Ryan Wines, is the university\u2019s first privately-funded scholarship for students of Black, African American, or African heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NAACP LDF Resources<\/a>: The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) is America\u2019s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Their Juneteenth resources include a reading list, details on their pro-truth work fighting efforts to ban honest discussions about racism, sexism, and oppression, and to silence those who speak the truth about our nation\u2019s past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Museum of African American History and Culture Resources<\/a>: NMAAHC\u2019s is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. Their Juneteenth resources include photos, videos and commentary from historical experts on the holiday, as well as a collection of Juneteenth recipes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When: June 17, Doors open at 3 p.m. and the rodeo starts at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where: Portland Expo Center, 2060 North Marine Drive, Portland, OR<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Juneteenth, come celebrate the history of Black rodeo at the Expo Center in Portland, Oregon. Featuring some of today\u2019s bravest riders, nastiest bulls, tastiest food, and live beats from DJ OG One, the Eight Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo will be an experience like no other. They\u2019ll pay tribute to the legends of Black rodeo in the Pacific Northwest, give the stars of today their shot at the title, and award five riding scholarships to inspire the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juneteenth Oregon Celebration<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When: June 17 – 18<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where: Lillis Albina Park, 2451 North Flint Avenue, Portland, OR<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clara Peoples, a prominent community leader, established Oregon’s Juneteenth Celebration. In 1945, she brought this cherished tradition from Muskogee, Oklahoma to her colleagues in Oregon, recognizing the lack of awareness and cultural resonance surrounding the Juneteenth holiday in this region. Spanning an entire weekend, the event offers an array of family-friendly activities, including an uplifting parade, a vibrant festival brimming with performances, food, and vendors showcasing their wares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juneteenth Cookout <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When: June 16, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where: The Redd, 831 Southeast Salmon Street, Portland, OR<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is free for all ages, featuring local BIPOC-owned vendors and businesses, food, community orgs and live music. There will also be a 21+ bar, activities for kids, a photo booth, a Red Bull truck, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support Marmoset\u2019s Black Artists via Bandcamp on Juneteenth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This coming Juneteenth<\/a> (June 19, from midnight to midnight PDT) and every Juneteenth hereafter, for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, they will be donating 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund<\/a>, a national organization that has a long history of effectively enacting racial justice and change through litigation, advocacy, and public education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
