This instrument was a tangible starting point to Cruz\u2019s exploratory phase, the burgeoning artist weaving in and out of whichever genre piqued his fascination. And while a far stray from his current work, Cruz found his musical footing by covering Megadeth songs. This consciousness to liberate oneself from a genre\u2019s perimeters carries over into Cruz\u2019s present day creative process. \u201cI&#8217;ve never felt stuck in a genre or category, it&#8217;s always about how I feel everyday,\u201d says Cruz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">In 2015 Cruz\u2019s debut album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/artists\/nicola-cruz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prender el Alma<\/a> recognizes a range of South American impressions with a focus on Ecuadorian and Andean cosmology. Four years later <em>Siku<\/em> epitomizes a creative evolution in Cruz\u2019s artistry \u2014 it&#8217;s a new alignment in which Cruz cultivates inclusiveness, the record euphonious to varying cultures even outside South America. A broad sweep, <em>Siku<\/em>\u2019s dynamic and cross-cultural qualities emerge through Cruz\u2019s collaborative strides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">On the record\u2019s eighth song \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/browse\/59662-obsidiana-instrumental\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Obsidiana<\/a>,\u201d Ecuadorian musician Mauricio Vicencio plays sitar, the song also drawing on Pablo Vicencio\u2019s lending of percussions. On \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/browse\/59658-criancada-con-castello-branco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crian\u00e7ada<\/a>\u201d Brazillian poet and singer Castello Branco\u2019s vocals chant to samba inspired rhythms, while \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/browse\/59660-voz-de-las-montanas-con-minuk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voz de las Monta\u00f1as<\/a>\u201d invites Min\u00fck into the mix.
