Around six months later, Madhav pieced together a 25 minute journey nodding to one\u2019s integral passion to <em>create<\/em>, to then selflessly detach from one\u2019s art to share it all with the world.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"\n              sqs-block-image-figure\n              intrinsic\n            \" style=\"max-width: 1080.0px;\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"\n                image-block-wrapper\n                has-aspect-ratio\n              \" style=\"padding-bottom: 150.0%;\" data-animation-role=\"image\"><br \/>\n<noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/find-music-for-videos-marmoset-mahesh.jpg\" alt=\"find-music-for-videos-marmoset-mahesh.jpg\"><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/find-music-for-videos-marmoset-mahesh.jpg\" alt=\"find-music-for-videos-marmoset-mahesh.jpg\" data-image=\"https:\/\/www.marmosetmusic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/find-music-for-videos-marmoset-mahesh.jpg\" data-image-dimensions=\"1080x1620\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5089285714285714,0.49404761904761907\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"5d267315a429a40001c7a619\" data-type=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Madhav\u2019s background is in engineering, but his pursuit of filmmaking comes from a desire to tell compelling, unique stories through a creative lens; ultimately drawing him to direct music videos and eventually, an almost half-hour long documentary that film festivals are taking notice of \u2014 the short has already been accepted into over five festivals and is still circulating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">After continuously running into Aronowitz several times around Portland, Madhav found a way to collaborate with the designer; the two discovered they shared a lot of common ground, including their artistic approaches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\u201cWe kind of had the same ethos in our creative production, whether it\u2019s the ideation process or the meticulousnesses. He\u2019s [Aronowitz] very careful, he doesn\u2019t want to expose a flaw to the public,\u201d says Madhav. \u201cIn the same way, I had a bunch of footage and realized some of it worked and some of it didn\u2019t. My problem became not \u2018how do I craft a story\u2019 but \u2018what story do I tell?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Throughout the documentary, Madhav incorporates background music to ebb and flow throughout Aronowitz\u2019s <em>simple<\/em> 108 step construction process. Licensed from Marmoset\u2019s catalog, Madhav secured music rights for his film by utilizing the site\u2019s search tool and functions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\u201cPart of the documentary filmmaking process was creating a soundtrack,\u201d says Madhav. \u201cThere was this funny thing about how you spend 10% of your time making and editing the film, then 90% of the time searching for music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Madhav chalks up his timesaving abilities by referencing a song\u2019s filters \u2014 being able to quickly see if a song exudes the right type of crescendo via its graphic icon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\u201cThe Marmoset user interface is amazing because it lets you chop down thousands of possibilities to 30 songs,\u201d says Madhav. \u201cAlso the ability to try out music without having the watermark is really great because Marmoset ends up giving a sense of trust to the filmmaker. With the encouragement of another film director, Madhav finally submitted the film for a Best Sound Design &amp; Editing nomination. And won.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\u201cOne of my mentors told me that the audience will forgive you if you have bad video,\u201d says Madhav. \u201cBut they won\u2019t forgive you if you have bad audio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">The way Madhav immerses himself into his work mirrors the film\u2019s very subject\u2014Madhav and Aronowitz apply the same dedication to their work, investing themselves into every detail in order to feel confident in sharing it with others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">The documentary filmmaker offers some insight to his pursuit of precision and excellence in filmmaking. and why the craft offers him an equal amount of liberation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\u201cWhen my mom grew up in India, they had a dirt floor and there were like six kids. They would all share writing utensils, but pencils and paper were precious,\u201d says Madhav. \u201cAnd the eraser they would share eventually went to dust, so they went to their dad and said \u2018look we ran out of eraser can you buy us a new one?\u2019 and he said, \u2018why do you have to make so many mistakes?\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">This mentality of never wasting anything tangible carried over into Madhav\u2019s upbringing, spurring his interest in digital media. \u201cI found it very freeing because I\u2019m not wasting paper or anything like that, I\u2019m using bits or pixels and they\u2019re purely ephemeral.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Madhav\u2019s <em>How to Bend Concrete in 108 Easy Steps <\/em>not merely captures an artist\u2019s creative process, but demonstrates how to give the right amount of care, dedication and attention to something\u2014to lend a piece of ourselves to a process just long enough, then being being vulnerable when inviting others into the room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">\u201cThis story is for any content creator,\u201d say Madhav. \u201cLike all content, you have to learn to let it go out into the world, to let others judge it. If they don\u2019t like it or if they do like it, that\u2019s up to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Madhav\u2019s film is currently being showcased internationally across festivals.
