Beat Angels celebrated the lost and overlooked. Inspired by writers like David Goodis and Harry Crews, frontman Brian Smith wrote sharp, self-mocking songs about beautiful losers, addicts, drunks, and strippers—equal parts sadness and satire wrapped in explosive punk-pop hooks. Formed in Phoenix from members of Gentlemen Afterdark and Motorcycle Boy, the band rejected both grunge machismo and Sunset Strip excess, channeling T. Rex, Mott the Hoople, Badfinger, the Beatles, and Buzzcocks into wild live shows and critically praised albums produced by Gilby Clarke
