Billy Clone and the Same
RockIn the late 1970s, as cover bands ruled Phoenix, a punk counterculture emerged with Billy Clone and the Same. Formed in 1978, the band—led by Billy₃ (Mike Corte) and Billy₄ (Bruce Connole), alongside Billy₂ (Damon Doiron) and Billy₅ (Derrell Gleason)—quickly became a local force, playing venues like Merlin’s and The Mason Jar and opening for major acts. Their Bowie-tinged “Don’t Look Back” gained radio play, and their 1979 EP X&Y earned critical praise.
