Distant Light
For Distant Light, drummer and composer Charles Neal creates an ambient music experience shaped by a lifetime of musical exploration. Beginning at age six, he studied piano, drums, vibraphone, and classical percussion, performing in ensembles, churches, and programs such as the Lionel Hampton School of Music. His broad experience spans rockabilly, Latin jazz, and acid jazz, including co-founding the group Like Family. A longtime presence in Portland’s music scene, Neal brings his work as a performer, producer, and collaborator to this expansive new project.
