DRUMWISE
Calvin Canha is a Maui-born musician, producer, and creative hyphenate whose work spans performance, production, and visual storytelling. Raised in Hawaiʻi, he discovered his passion for music at age seven, starting with the ʻukulele before finding his true calling behind the drums. Known for his precision, musicality, and finely tuned ear, Canha honed his craft in drums and percussion before expanding into guitar, bass, and keys. He began performing professionally in 2004, emerging through Hawaiʻi’s reggae scene and building a career that has taken him across the U.S. and internationally. Over more than a decade as a touring and studio drummer, he has collaborated with award-winning and influential artists such as Kolohe Kai, Katchafire, J Boog, Mike Love, Three Plus, Inna Vision, Paula Fuga, and Landon McNamara, among others. In 2019, he launched his production imprint Drumwise, reflecting his self-taught approach and commitment to cross-genre collaboration spanning reggae, pop, dancehall, and R&B. His debut full-length album, Reflection Riddim (2021), pays homage to Jamaica’s traditional juggling culture and features an impressive lineup including Peetah Morgan, Jemere Morgan, Through The Roots, Fiji, The Steppas, Siaosi, and Gavinchi Brown. Canha’s work remains a fixture on Hawaiʻi radio, and in 2025 he received a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award nomination in the Engineering category for his work on Nuff Sedd’s album Cup of Aloha, underscoring his lasting impact on the islands’ contemporary music landscape.
