Musician, arranger and composer Franco Chiari (Naples, 1927 – Rome, 1993) studied at the Naples Conservatory of Music. He began his career as a vibraphonist in Rome, first with the American Red Cross orchestra in 1945 and then, in 1946, with the orchestra of Italy’s National broadcaster RAI, where he occupied the position for many years. A recipient of various national awards throughout his career, both as a solo musician and as the leader of his swing sextet Chiari was praised not only as a jazz vibraphonist, but also for his talent on multiple keyboard instruments, from the piano to the accordion, and from synths to the marimba, in jazz as well as symphonic settings.
