Lucy Rodgers stormed onto the Chicago gospel stage in 1957, building popularity through the 1960s with a series of performances on the Rock of Ages gospel program on the UHF band. She cut a pair of singles for Chuck Bernard and Monk Higgins’ St. Lawrence label in 1966. The Chess family recruited Rodgers for their Checker subsidiary, turning out two singles and an LP that year.
