Red Alert
PopRising from the ranks of Arizona fan-favorites Blue Shoes, Red Alert was born out of a pivotal turning point. After the departure of drummer Jim Allen, the group found themselves at a crossroads. Well accustomed to regional stardom, the remaining foursome, consisting of husband-and-wife co-founders and creative force D.R. Wilke (guitar, vocals) and Peggy Murphy (keys, vocals), along with Troy Janzen (guitar, vocals) and Richard Dye (bass), opted not for a human replacement but for the unwavering precision of a computer. Embracing the reliability and cutting-edge sonic pulse of the drum machine, they rebranded as Red Alert and traded the power pop dynamics of Blue Shoes for a shimmering, “Electric” minimalism. Capturing the vibe of the early MTV era, they channeled the energy and aesthetics of the 1980s into a singular vision, releasing the single “Electric” along with an accompanying music video. Red Alert is the sound of their DIY revolution, which further expanded their private-press label, Living Room Records.
