Chicago south-siders Lowrell Simon (pictured), Jessie Dean, Glen Murdock, William McCoy, and James Neely began out of high school as the LaVondells. They had a few local hits as The Vondells but disbanded after Dean was drafted in 1965. Simon went on to cut funk and love songs in the 70s and 80s including "Mellow Mellow Right On" which was sampled by Massive Attack, Markie Dee, and Chicago's own, Common.
