San Francisco's prolific singer/songwriter John Vanderslice constructs imaginative pop songs using innovative approaches to instrumentation, songwriting and production. Vanderslice is a proponent of using analog instruments and recording equipment to produce a richer, more raw sound which he has sometimes called "sloppy hi-fi". John's use of strings, horns and piano creates an illusion of density by carefully layering these elements over bright guitars and meandering drums to achieve an orchestrated sparse sprawl of sound.
