The Pills
Named after a New York Dolls take on a Bo Diddley tune, The Pills were a pop-glam-punk band from Tucson, Arizona, active from 1979 to 1981. An outlier in a scene dominated by bar bands, they built a reputation for chaotic local gigs and clashes with older rock crowds. Influenced by acts such as Mott the Hoople and the New York Dolls, they recorded demos with Foster Cayce and self-released a four-song EP. Their track “DC-10” became a local radio hit. After lineup changes, they regrouped, moved to Phoenix, and evolved into Gentlemen Afterdark.
