Eddy M started his musical career in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1953. Probably the first Canadian rockabilly artist, Eddy M was nicknamed with the moniker “The Rockin’ Hillbilly”, which he detested, so he came up with a new name for his music and his band, The Rockabillies, even before he knew that such a term existed. Eddy adapted the rhythm of the boogie-woogie to his guitar, added a root to the fifth riff and had the sound he would use for the next sixty years. Canadian Music Historian Steve Fruitman classified it as a reincarnation of the Country Jump Blues.
