Trash Kitten does not make safe or predictable music. As a collaborative effort between New York-based producers Steve Sopchak and Mike Abiuso, the project exists as a fringe element of both gritty, old school hip hop as well as contemporary pop/edm. The idea spawned from both participants' love of the way that older, sample-based hip hop productions managed to retain such a distinctly human feel despite being so obviously looped. With respect to that, all recording sessions began by tracking original, vintage-inspired sources from which to sample (jazz trio improvisations, organic hand percussion loops, retro funk/soul guitar and keyboard parts) and from there, the material was chopped-up and abused into its current, trend-independent form.
