Rico's Combo
Known as one of the first ska musicians, Emmanuel "Rico" Rodriguez, MBE, was a Cuban-born Jamaican trombonist. In the 1950s, Rodriguez became a Rastafarian, moving to the UK in 1961 where he began performing in ska and reggae bands, most notably The Specials. These 7" singles released on Sonny Roberts' first imprint, Planetone, represent a pivotal moment when mento was morphing into ska. Marmoset is proud to represent these rare, seminal recordings.
