Andre Williams was a beloved figure in the upper Midwest R&B scene. After he penned Stevie Wonder's first song, he became associated with the Checker imprint of fabled Chicago label, Chess Records. Williams continued to make a name for himself in the 1960s working with Edwin Starr, writing for Parliament and Funkadelic, and producing Ike Turner. After a stint of addiction and homelessness in the 1980s, Williams returned to form in the early 00s to tour North America and Europe recording for Bloodshot Records and playing with the likes of The Sadies among many others.
