Cecil James McNeely, "Big Jay McNeely" is a rhythm and blues saxophonist born in 1927 in Los Angeles, California. McNeely's first hit, "The Deacon's Hop," topped the Billboard R&B chart in early 1949 along with major popularity around his song "There Is Something on Your Mind," (1959). To this day his original tenor sax is enshrined in the Experience Music Project in Seattle, and he was inducted into The Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
