George Washington Bridge
RockFourteen-year-old drummer Dwayne Witten rebuilt a discarded 1949 Cadillac hearse from the ground up, eventually christening it with his band's name: George Washington Bridge. Alongside singer Mike Winn, bassist Steve Thomas, guitarist Sam Ganem, guitarist Pud Gaffney and keyboardist Alex Walter, the group became one of Phoenix's premier garage bands, opening for Buffalo Springfield, Sonny & Cher, the Beach Boys and Country Joe & the Fish. Their lone 1968 Mascot Records single, "Butterball" b/w "Train Ride," is now a prized collector's item. Today, the George Washington Bridge catalog resides with Fervor Records.
