The daughter oftwo musicians, Marte Solbakken quit playing music when her family fell apart. She ended upin foster care as a teenager and didn’t play an instrument until more than a decade later when, holed upin a New York blizzard, she picked up her boyfriend’s guitar and penned her first songs. Realizing that she had reconnected with an essential part of herself, she soon decided topursue a career in music. Many songs later, she is releasing her debut EP Maybe This Is All You Can Be under the moniker Lilyer. Written during a time of much personal turmoil, these soaring dream pop songs carve out their own truth, their own voice. Lilyer is the sound of someone on the verge of breaking free.
