Absolute Ceiling
Kansas-based new wave/rock outfit Absolute Ceiling energized the Midwest from 1984 into the early ’90s. Formed by Mike Niewald and the late Jim Strahm, the band evolved from Mike’s high school group, The Basics, into a sharper, more driven unit with bassist Cory Corbino and drummer Joe Gose. Influenced by Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, and Fugazi, they crafted a raw, melodic sound. Recording at Ramona Studios and Woodland West, they built a strong regional following and opened for Soul Asylum, The Wipers, Alex Chilton, and True Believers. Their momentum led to college radio success, with their catalog now preserved by Fervor Records.
