Led by Huey “Cookie” Thierry and Shelton Dunaway, Cookie & The Cupcakes were among the earliest, most influential groups of the “Swamp Pop” genre’s golden age (1958-63). In the late 50s and 60s, the group found national success with their ballads “Mathilda” and “Got You On My Mind,” peaking on Billboard’s charts. Their music is a blending of Country, Cajun and Black Creole roots, and the band uses bellowing saxes, up-lifting piano, and heart-felt lyrics to make their timeless sound.
