We’re stoked to welcome bed. – otherwise known as Sierra and Alex Haager, the husband-wife duo from Portland, Oregon – to the Marmoset roster.
Creating music filled with distorted bass and ever-fuzzy guitars that’s fit for a life under the cloudy skies of the Pacific Northwest. After listening to one… two… all of their songs, we were hooked on the tunes from this self-described, slow-fi band.We briefly chatted with Alex Haager about how bed. became bed. and their recently released debut EP, Klickitat. What’s the story behind the name bed.?
We are married. Band names can be pretty ridiculous, so we tried to keep it as short as possible.
How do you feel your music falls within the “slow-fi” genre?
As far as we know, we invented the genre, so it’s safe to say that our music falls squarely within the limits of “slow-fi.”
You released your recent album, Klickitat. Did you record the album here in Portland? What was that writing/recording experience like?
We wrote these songs in our old apartment and recorded them with friends in home studios and practice spaces in Portland and Northern California over the course of two years.
What type of film, commercial, television, etc. would you be most excited to see your music licensed to? Why?
In no particular order and for no particular reason: lotion commercials, detective shows, Grey’s Anatomy, yogurt industry HR and training videos, Wes Anderson-style amateur pornographies, cigarette commercials, Gap Kids Christmas ads, Buddhism pamphlets, campaign ads for fringe libertarian candidates, Visit The Bahamas, Imagine Dragons lyric videos, etc.
Have you ever been given advice that you believe has helped shape your career into what it is today? If so, what was it and how has it helped shape your career?
We played a show with Kelley Deal one time and she told us we should be famous. We agree completely – so wise.
