Thermal Imaging, Art, and the Eclipse: A DWP Collaboration with Cinco Design

Some things are just better together. Peanut butter and jelly. Simon and Garfunkel. A voice and microphone. That’s why we’re honored to partner with our friends over at Cinco Design, in collaboration with Adobe Creative Resident, Craig Winslow, for their “Better Together” project.

As a part of Design Week Portland, this interactive event is all about how different components can be combined to create an unimaginable interactive environment, all centered around the eclipse.

How will this work? Utilizing a FLIR thermal camera to measure crowd movement and density, the technology will use the crowd’s thermal signature combined with midi controllers to activate the human touch behind switching the various visual and audio phases of the event.

Featuring imagery ranging from sunsets to wolves to pop art-esque donuts, paired with ambient scores created and produced by our very own Original Music Team, it’s safe to say “Better Together” will be an event like no other. Check it out from 7:30pm – 11pm this Friday, April 28th at New Era Studios, and read more details about it here.

“Instead of composing traditional musical passages, our team was challenged to think outside the box to come up with interesting soundscapes and textural palettes” – Marmoset Composer, Graham Barton
