Q2 Community Investments

As part of Marmoset’s overarching purpose, Be Community, we invest 10% of all profits (from our share, never the artists’) in nonprofits and organizations enacting real, positive change in our community and beyond. Every quarter, we partner up with organizations fighting for social, environmental and educational equity.

We couldn’t do this without you – the clients, filmmakers, directors and editors who choose Marmoset. Your business keeps our lights on and allows us to give back to our community.

Keep reading to find out more about the organizations we partnered with and how much we were able to invest directly into our community with your help last quarter. You can also learn more about our community investments and purpose-driven work in our 2023 Transparency Report.

As a company deeply committed to making a positive impact, Marmoset takes great pride in its active involvement in community investments. Throughout the second quarter of this year, we continued to extend our support to various causes and organizations.

In total, we invested over $17,000.00 in 7 different organizations focused on food security, abortion access, gender-affirming healthcare, and more. Read on to learn more about the organizations we contributed to and the work they do in our community.

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, Marmoset invested $1,000 into The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), which protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans. AALDEF combines litigation, advocacy, education, and organizing with Asian American communities across the country to secure human rights for all.

To celebrate Earth Day, we invested $1,000 into Crag Law Center. Crag provides legal assistance to communities and groups fighting to protect the environment by representing clients in court, advocating for policy changes, and conducting research to support environmental causes. Crag’s focus areas include protecting forests, rivers, and wildlife, as well as promoting clean energy and sustainable agriculture.

Marmoset contributed $4,000 to Milkcrate Kitchen (MCK), which aims to provide relief and support to the greater Portland community by offering free meals to families and individuals in need. Through the combined efforts of trained chefs and community volunteers, MCK supplies regular weekly meals to diverse populations, prioritizing reducing hunger and ensuring food security.

Marmoset’s $4,000 investment in MCK goes toward commercial kitchen rental, and purchasing food and supplies. On top of our investment, 7 Marmoset volunteers helped to prepare meals with MCK in May.

Marmoset contributed $2,500 to My Voice Music as part of their 15th Annual Gala Celebration. My Voice Music (MVM) teaches youth to write, record, and perform original songs, with the vision that all youth have the opportunity to find and share their artistic voice.

Marmoset invested $4,000 into the Northwest Abortion Access Fund (NWAF), which provides financial assistance to people seeking abortion care in the Pacific Northwest. NWAF believes that everyone should have access to reproductive healthcare, regardless of their income, insurance status, or geographic location. They provide financial support to cover the cost of abortion care, as well as transportation, lodging, and other related expenses.

Marmoset invested $2,500 into Southern Oregon University’s Imani Scholarship for the Education and Empowerment of Black Learners. Black students make up less than 2% of SOU’s student population, and the fund is used to recruit students from traditionally underserved populations.

Finally, Marmoset contributed $2,500 to Prism Health, an LGBTQ+ health center in Portland. Prism Health offers a safe, affirming, and non-judgmental space where all members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community can obtain the compassionate and culturally effective health care they need and deserve. The center operates on a sliding scale, and provides primary care, gender-affirming care, HIV care, and more.

We are grateful for the continued support of our customers, artists, and partners, as it is through their contributions that these investments are made possible. As we move forward, we are excited to continue discovering new avenues to foster positive change and leave a lasting legacy in the communities we serve.
